“Brrr”, said the naughty dog

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 4:44 pm by sillydreamer

See the black and brown dog on top of the yellow dog? That’s Lucy. The yellow dog she is laying on, because it’s too cold to lay on the ground, is Nina. See all the white fluff scattered around their kennel? That’s the blanket that was put inside their dog house to help keep them warm. Want to know why it’s shredded in a million pieces? That’s because of Lucy. Want to know why this picture is so crappy? That’s because my rechargeable batteries for my camera no longer hold a charge and I had to use my Blackberry to take this.

Let me tell you about these dogs. Nina, a lab and chow mix, was rescued from our local pound. She was already about 6 months and very, very close to being put down because she had been there so long. Danny took the girls down to pick out a dog and when they let her out to be seen, Danny said she ran and ran around in circles, so happy to be out of that cage. She is the BEST dog in the world. She’s sweet and loving, never chews up anything and never barks. She can bark but she chooses not to I guess. We’ve had her about 9 years and I could probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve heard her bark.

Then there’s Lucy.

Lucy is a beagle, cocker spaniel mix that I bought from a pet store. I love her and I can honestly say I am probably the only person in this whole world that does. She is so cute and loves me too. If my husband had his way about it, that dog would be so gone though! She’s a chewer. She’s chewed up every toy or shoe that’s ever been left out. She’s also a digger and that’s what really ticks Danny off. This dog digs like crazy. I really thought she would outgrow it but she’s almost 4 now so I don’t think that’s an option.

I sometimes wonder what Nina thinks about Lucy lol.  I know they love each other but I wonder if Nina gets as frustrated with that naughty dog as we do sometimes.  Like now for instance, instead of having a warm blanket to lay on in the doghouse, it’s in a million pieces on the ground.  That’s the wonderful thing about Nina, she just goes with the flow 🙂  There’s wonderful things about the naughty dog too but it’s hard to think of them sometimes.  Oh well, she’s mine and I’ll just keep on loving her naughty little butt.

It’s Monday!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:23 pm by sillydreamer

The past week-end was great.  Hubs and I attended our first home owners association meeting on Saturday morning and it went ok.  Out of 130 homes in our subdivision I think there were 14 people there, including us lol.

On Sunday hubs and I took the dogs for a nice long walk, which they loved.  They were so tired when they got back home, I don’t think I saw them move again for the rest of the day.  Now that I write this down, it looks like my week-end was pretty darn boring but it was very relaxing so that’s what I like.  Saturday night we built a fire, watched TV and I drank pomegranate martinis so does that make it sound any more exciting?  I didn’t think so.

The new baby starts next Monday so I will spend a little time moving some things around in the playroom.  I picked up a new playpen last night since my other one bit the dust after many years of babies in it.  And does it ever fail?  I had that opening since August and now that it’s filled, I got a call from a mother of my daughter’s friends.  LOL.  When I’m full, I get calls all the time I swear.

I’ve got a million things to do so I had better get to doing them.  Have a wonderful Monday 🙂

I forgot my props

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 8:29 pm by sillydreamer

I know, I know, I don’t post for days on end and then I post three times in one day.  I’m nuts like that I guess!

Anyway, I forgot to give props to some of my favorite online quilters.  Both of these ladies have done quilts in the same style as the love quilt and that’s where I got my inspiration.  Thank you to Alissa (who I just saw is moving her blog but go here first to see her stuff) and to Amanda for sharing your ideas and your pictures with us.  Also check out Nettie‘s page because she has some amazing quilts too.  I am really loving the latest quilt pictures that she has posted.   All three of these ladies are so talented!!!!  Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and answering questions about measurements, etc.  You ladies rock!!!!

I found this on Beckie’s site and decided to play along.

1.Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.

2.Go to the 6th Folder, then pick the 6th picture in that folder.

3.Post that picture on your blog and the story that goes along with the picture.

4.Tag 6 other peoples that you know or don’t know to do the same thing and leave a comment on their blog or an e-mail letting them know you chose them.

rachelAre you blind from looking at my blurry picture yet?  LOL!  This is actually has a cool story to share so even though it’s blurry and the colors are awful, I’m glad it was in the right spot.  The girl in the skirt walking with the pole is my oldest daughter Haley’s best friend.  This was taken last April at drill team tryouts.  Rachel was the lietenent on the squad and was passing her pole down to the new lietenent.  When you are trying out for an officer spot not only do you have to do all the normal tryout stuff, you do lots of interviews and self analysis, etc.  It’s a very tense process for the girls.  On the day of the tryouts all the regular line members are posted and then the officer ceremony is held afterwards in the gym (which explains the crap lighting).  All the potential candidates line in in a row and the the reigning officer is handed an envelope with the new officer’s name written inside.  She walks up and down the line of girls giving hints as to who will get the pole.  For example, this girl has a beautiful smile, this girl has a funny laugh, I love this girl’s sense of style and narrowing it down from there.  Personally I would hate it if I were waiting to find out if I got the spot or not, but that’s just me.  It’s a big deal and has been done this way for as long as I can remember.  My daughter Haley tried out and as luck would have it, Rachel got to hand her pole down to her.  I was very sweet and a special moment that those two will cherish forever.  So that’s my story 🙂

I hate tagging people so if you want to join in, be my guest.

The Love Quilt

I haven’t blogged in awhile but I have been busy. I found two packs of these charm squares at a local quilt store some time back and put them on the back burner while finishing up another quilt, moving, etc. I pulled them out about two weeks ago and started working. After lots of planning I decided to go the easy, no thinking route and just box them in. In the photo the brown looks reddish but in real life it’s a deep chocolate brown. I hope to get the top put together this week-end and then start working on the quilting next week. I’m supposed to be working on a blue jean rag quilt for my friend so don’t tell her I’m not, ok 🙂

Free Patterns

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 7:19 pm by sillydreamer

I see that one of my favorite  sites has added some new patterns recently.  I can totally see “Swanky” in shades of browns and blue for my husband!  Poor man, he’s always covered up by quilts in shades of yellows, pinks and purples.  He says he doesn’t mind but really, don’t you think it takes away from his self esteem just a little???  Gotta love him and gotta love free patterns 🙂

I’m so lame

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 5:26 pm by sillydreamer

It’s really cold here today.  That has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I am lame, I just wanted to share that with you.  You know I don’t like cold weather so I just had to comment on that.

I’m sure I have mentioned the fact already about how I don’t like to say anything negative about a book that I’ve read for fear the author is going to read it and have their feelings hurt.  I k now that sounds lame but it’s true and I have actually given a book review here and the author left me a comment.  Thankfully it was a book that I had nothing negative to say or I would have died of shame for saying something to make someone feel bad!  I would never make it as a critic, would I?

Last night I got a friend request on MySpace so I clicked on it to see who it was.  There is a new show on VH1, Confessions of a Teen Age Idol, and it was one of the cast members, Billy something, that has a new CD coming out.  On impulse I just clicked deny and went on surfing, etc.  I immediately started feeling that gnawing feeling that I’ve been mean to someone.  That stupid feeling stayed with me the rest of the night and it was the first thing I thought of this morning.  So now I am going to have to go and track this person’s page down and send HIM a friend request to make it go away!  Now THAT is the epitome of lameness I think!

I’m happy to say that on February 2nd I will have a new baby girl starting in my daycare 🙂  I’m so tickled.  I’ve had an opening for several months and was almost to the point of having to run an ad when I got the call.  I’ve been doing daycare for 13 years and I’ve always been full and my families have come to me by word of mouth only so I was starting to feel a little desparate having an opening for so long.  I had sat down several times to compose my ad but it just didn’t feel right so I never finished, thank goodness lol.  I would much rather have someone referred to me so holding out saved me.  The Mom seemed super sweet and that’s about 85% of it right there.  I’ve been praying for the right daycare family to come to me at the right time so thank the Lord for answered prayers 🙂

2008 Recap

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , at 7:41 pm by sillydreamer

2008 was quite a year for us indeed and turned out much differently than I ever thought it would. That’s not a bad thing, just lots of unexpected things happened but what’s that saying, “life is what happens when you are busy making plans.” LOL!

If you had told me a year ago I would be selling my house and moving, I would have laughed in your face. Moving was not even a thought in my head but out of the blue, it happened. There was lots of bumps and lumps along the way but we are here and life is good. I loved my other house a lot, but it was time to go and after lots of thought and prayers on what to do, we plowed ahead and are settled in nicely. I know this was the right thing for us.

We certainly didn’t expect hubby to be laid off a week after we closed on this house but life happens. We still don’t know what’s going to happen but for now we are being told he will return to his job so that’s what we are hoping for. This has been our biggest upset and challenge but we’re managing ok. I have to admit that our spirits get low and we do worry about what will happen but there is zero that we can do about it so we try and roll with the punches. We are healthy and have a roof over our heads so there’s not much more to ask for. In the end, it’s all going to work out exactly as it was supposed to.

I didn’t expect to lose my little J and K from my daycare this year either but it happened. They get to stay home with their Mommy so that is a wonderful thing for them and I am truly happy that it worked out for them. I miss them lots though. I’ve added little baby A, who is H’s brother so I have one more spot to fill. Now that things have calmed down after the move, I need to run an ad. I’m very nervous about that because I’ve never, ever had to do that before. I have always filled all my spots from word of mouth and ended up with great families. Wish me luck in that area please 🙂

Life just rolls on with three teen agers in the house. Haley will turn 18 in less than a week!!! I can’t believe that at all. She got her license this past year and we bought her a car so she’s on the go as much as she can be. I’m ready to see her get a job and start paying for some of the upkeep but that would be a post for a different day. In a few short months she will graduate from high school and has made plans to attend a community college in the fall. It’s time for her to sprout her little wings and fly! Of course I have mixed feelings about it but what Mother doesn’t?

Heather and Holly are just Heather and Holly! They will turn 17 in a little more than a week and that too is unbelievable! I’m also looking forward to seeing a little more personal responsibility from them. It blows my mind that these girls have never had jobs. By the time I was their age I was working two part time jobs and going to school but again, a post for another day. We did learn our lesson from Haley and there will be no driver’s license or a car until they get a job and put up a little of their own money lol. I always felt that because I did have so much responsibility at an early age that I wanted my kids to just enjoy their teen age years but now I’m afraid that I’ve let them down by not making them a little more responsible. Wouldn’t it be nice to just know all the answers when it comes to parenting?

So that was my 2008. There were highs and lows for us, just like everyone else, but it all turned out ok. I hope 2009 brings much happiness and blessings to your families and mine too.
