Posted in Uncategorized at 11:39 am by sillydreamer

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!  I had to get up and get my bird in the oven, otherwise you would not be hearing from me at 5:30 in the morning.  I do hope you enjoy your day, eat lots of yummy food and reflect on all your blessings today.

This is fun

Go here to see what the number one song was on the day you were born.

Mine was “Hey Jude” by The Beatles.  I’ve always said I wasn’t old enough to be around for Beatlemania but I guess that wasn’t true after all!  LOL!

Oh to be that young!

Talking to our insurance agent isn’t really my idea of fun so that usually means hubby gets to do it.  We’ve been with the same company about 12 years now and we’ve had a few agents come and go so we’re not on a personal basis with them.  We just write the check.

Since we bought the other house, we have been in a contact with our actual agent a few times in the last month.  The only encounter I’ve had with him has just been over the phone and I can’t remember what I said but his response to me was “I’m THE insurance agent.”  It was said in a really young, cocky, funny way so I wasn’t offended.  You can tell he’s a younger guy so that’s cool.  Gotta love the enthusiasm, right?

The other day he called hubby to set up a time to come and take pictures of the other house for insurance purposes.  Somehow the conversation veered off to vehicles and as mileage, just in a friendly sort of way.  Both guys have big Chevy Silverados so I guess they were bonding.  Anyway, agent tells hubby how he has a friend that has dialed into the truck’s computer to get better gas mileage and he could do the same for hubby.  In fact, his friend could make his truck “scream, screech tires, and still get 18 miles to the gallon.”  LOL!  I did mention that he’s also our car insurance agent, didn’t I?  LOL!  I’ve never had an agent offer to soup up one of vehicles to make it scream.  This just made me laugh again thinking about it.

Today is the day he’s meeting to take the pictures.  He called this morning to ask to move it up by thirty minutes because his dream has come true.  He gets to drive around all week-end in a 2008 Dodge Viper!  An ex girlfriend of his has been able to set this up for him to have the car all week-end!  LOL!

He may not be my idea of what an insurance agent usually is but you’ve got to love this guys’s zest for life!  I hope he has a fabulous week-end in his car and remembers it for years to come 🙂

It’s a Sun shiny Day

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:42 pm by sillydreamer

I just love this time of year!  At night we are in the low 40’s and then our afternoons zip up to the low 70’s.  That qualifies as fall in Texas and we will definitely take it 🙂  I can’t believe how brightly the sun is shining today.  Is that my imagination or is it really brighter this time of year than our brutal summers?  LOL!  Maybe it just seems that way because I am loving the sun right now instead of cursing it.

Now that the sunshine is beaming right into the windows, I am seeing lots of places that are in dire need of dusting so I guess I need to go address that and the baby that just woke up hungry.  I hope you all have a wonderful day and I will try and post pictures of the quilt top I am working on.  I hope to get all the rows sewed together at naptime.  It’s just a crib size so I should be able to swing it.

A little personal info and a favor

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:52 pm by sillydreamer

If you’ve been following along you know that we’ve bought a house and currently have ours on the market.  We closed on the new (new to us but 2 years old) house and made plans to move the week of Thanksgiving.  If you’re a regular reader you know how stressed I’ve been about this.

Hubby took a week off so that he could paint over there and have the carpets cleaned before we start moving.  The first day he goes back to work, he gets the news that his company will be shutting down for 6 weeks.  As you can imagine, we are totally bummed and very worried that instead of shutting down for just 6 weeks, they might just keep it that way permanently.  Of course no one in management has said that but you’ve got to think along those lines.

So let’s see where that leaves us.  We have two mortgages and a very diminished income.  My heart pounds every time I say that.  The best case scenario will be that they don’t even shut down for 6 weeks.  That’s  not totally written in stone yet but I think if they went to the trouble of calling an emergency meeting, then it’s probably going to happen.  The  not so best case scenario would be that they shut down for just 6 weeks, we draw a paltry unemployment check, make a few cutbacks and juggle two mortgages.  The worst case scenario is no job to go back to at all and we lose the other house.  The beautiful house that I have cried a bucket of tears already thinking I won’t get to move into.

Now the one thing that could really save us would be to sell this house and that’s my favor to ask of you guys.  I guess not to specifically ask for this house to sell, but to ask for prayers or what other method some use to ask for things, that we’ll be ok and make it through this time.  I want whatever the best thing for my family is to happen and if that means we stay here, then I ask for acceptance of that and wisdom to know what choices we should be making.

I know things could be so much worse.  We could lose a job without any notice or we could lose the only house we own so I’m not playing up the “poor pitiful me” routine.  I  know many people have been through this exact thing so I am not the first person this has happened to.  I am very appreciative of all that I have and if we do lose the other house then so be it.  We will survive-it’s just a house.  I just need some prayers for guidance on how best to handle our situation.

If you made it all the way through this sage then I thank you 🙂

Because you can never be too sure

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 4:27 pm by sillydreamer

st-joseph-0041We want to make sure all our bases are covered in our home selling venture,so we went online and purchased our St. Joseph statue to bury in the yard.   After that, it’s out of our hands 🙂

I swear, everyone takes all the good ideas first.  I told hubby that packaging these and selling them would be a great business and lo and behold, someone’s already doing that.  I also told him it would be a great idea to be home staging consultant for people selling their homes.  We’re not a very big town but something like that would make a good side business for someone.  Just charge a $50 to $75 consultation fee and come in and give the sellers ideas on what they can do to maximize their home’s appearance.  Lo and behold, I get a letter from someone doing that very thing already!  I have got to start thinking and acting a little faster!

Outsourcing at it’s finest

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 5:09 pm by sillydreamer

Want to know the best way to start a morning?  With a stroke, apparently because that’ just about what happened to hubby this morning.  By the time he got off the phone with a TXU Energy rep from Asia, I really thought he might collapse.

Gone are the days when you call up the electric company and tell them that you are moving to a new house so you need the electricity turned on there but you need to keep the electricity on at your same house until it sells.  I thought this was standard practice but oh no.  I guess in Asia things are done differently because she kept asking how long would we need electric service at our new house.  Um, a very long time?  She also kept asking when do we need to turn it off over here.  Her English was pretty good but the phone connection was terrible so we were only catching about every third word she said and there was lots of static on the line.  Hubby kept asking her to repeat what she said and she was not happy to do that.  He explained that the connection was bad and was there a number in the US that he could call and that really pissed her off.  She told him the phones in America must be bad!  Whatever.  After 45 minutes he told her to not do anything at all and we would call back.  So far there is still power at this house so maybe it’s alright.  We went online and hopefully gotten it all taken care of.  I may be the one that has a stroke if my power goes off though!

Seriously, how many more jobs are going to be sent overseas?  I’ve read that the drive through at Wendy’s is going to be outsourced.  Seriously?  How much could the person wearing the headset and taking your order possibly be making?  I guess the company looks at it as whatever the amount, it could always be lower.  I think President Obama should do something about this asap.  Maybe we could give incentives to companies that don’t outsource any of their jobs.  Don’t you think that would help the economy more than giving billions to the banks to bail them out of their mess?  Then again, what do I really know?
