Book Review-“The Ice Man-Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer”

Posted in books at 8:17 pm by sillydreamer

Holy crap!

I know, not your usual book review and I could very well leave it at that but I’ll explain further.

This book was very hard to read because of the subject matter.  I read books like this all the time but this one really went into a lot of detail and just the amount of killing this man did is unreal.  I hope that it’s embellished a little because it’s hard to wrap my head around someone that can kill repeatedly for no reason.  This was the most evil man I’ve ever read about.  He absolutely had no remorse about killing.  I saw a show that he was featured on A&E some time back and you can look into this man’s eyes and see there is no soul.

There is an interesting little tie in with Sammy Gravano and Richard’s death at the end of the book though.   Things that make you go hmmmm.

My 16 year old just left in a car with a boy to go see a movie!!  Technically he’s not her boyfriend, according to her, and I don’t think he is because they’ve been friends for several years but who knows?  This is the first time she has ever gone with a boy alone anywhere!  Uuughh…..I don’t like these kids getting older at all.

The Moaning Meme

Posted in complaints, computer, family, thoughts at 3:26 am by sillydreamer

Here’s the deal, The Freelance Cynic created this meme. He says:

“If you’ve ever listened to people talking on a bus you’ll know that most of what they say is negative. They talk about things they hate, people that annoy them and boyfriends that let them down before they even think about mentioning the ‘nice things.’

All of us do it.  We find it natural, when with a friend, to moan.  In fact a recent study has shown that the most effective form of human bonding is moaning and gossiping.  Yet our blogs, the social tools of the 21st century, are populated by memes listing our ‘favourites,’ or our ‘blessings,’ or our ‘funniest’ moments.  In our efforts to be readable we have denied others the one thing that makes us interesting – our whining, moaning, complaining selves.  So I am pleased to present the first ever Moaning Meme!  The meme that will teach us all a bit more about each other and ourselves.  It’s time to spread some Personality… “

Four things that should go into room 101 and be removed from the face of the earth.

1.  Mechanical pencils

2.  Saran Wrap

3.  rough, scratchy toilet paper

4.  beets and hominy

Three things people do that make you want to shake them violently.

 1.  cut me off on the highway

2.  be rude to me

3.  Think that their children can do no wrong (lol…..this was someone else’s answer but I agree with it and kept it)

Two things you find yourself moaning about.

1.  my camera wizard not working on my computer anymore

2.  wanting my family to eat more variteties of food, especially my oldest daughter

One thing the above answers tell you about yourself.

I find fault with others instead of myself?  LOL!

Link to the original meme at freelancecynic.com so people know what it’s all about!

  • Be as honest as possible, This is about letting people get to know the real you!
  • Try not to insult anyone – unless they really deserve it or are very, very ugly!
  • Post these rules at the end of every meme!

Well of course!

Posted in complaints, Disney, family, photos, teen ager, thoughts at 3:26 pm by sillydreamer

It’s Monday morning and my little guy is sleeping so I thought I would get online and finish a project I started.  Several months ago I uploaded my daughter’s prom pictures and was planning on having a small memory book made for her at Wal-Mart.  I actually had all of the photos placed and needed to add a few captions to finish it up so I could get it ordered.  This free time this morning was perfect for that.  At some point I am also going to have all my Disney photos done into a hard cover book as a surprise for my hubby but I’m getting off track here.

After I previewed and made sure that everything was perfect, I clicked order book.   The next page that loads tells me that memory book orders are temporaily unavailable.  Well of course they are, since I have just spent the last 45 minutes perfecting mine.  I have no idea when they’ll be available again and I’m not going to waste my time making a call to Wal-Mart because I’m sure I have a better idea about what’s going on than they do.  So I guess I can wait a little while or go ahead and order from someone else.  It just irritates me that I waited when I should have done this months ago.  I guess that’s what I get huh?  I guess while H is still napping I will look around and see what other places I can find.  Hope everyone has a great day 🙂

The Boob Tube

Posted in thoughts, TV at 3:36 pm by sillydreamer

I shamelessly admit that I love watching TV.  Most of what I watch is either forensic, detective type shows or home improvement.  However I do love some reality TV lol!   I’m flipping through the channels the other day and I saw a preview for a reality show with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman!  If you are a child of the 80’s you definitely know who these guys are and can you say trainwreck?  I am so going to watch this because how can you not?

I am also watching the Scott Baio reality show and the Bret Michael’s reality show, both on VH1.  OMG…..you just can’t stop watching….it’s such a mess.  I remember being soooo in love with Scott Baio as a child.  Who didn’t love Chachi?  I never got on the Bret Michael’s band wagon but these girls on that show are something else.  They are going to be so embarrassed when they finally grow up and see how they acted.  It’s truly sad.  I just love VH1 for giving me this entertainment 🙂

You all know I am in Soprano mourning still but I’m hoping there will be some new drama coming on that I can get hooked on to take it’s place.  I watched “The Shield” but I can’t figure out if it’s over for good or not.  This was supposed to be the last season but I’ve heard it’s coming back.  I missed the last episode so I guess I need to go online and figure that out.

That’s about it for my TV update.  If you are watching a good show, let me know so I can check it out too.

My Guy

Posted in family, thoughts at 1:42 pm by sillydreamer

I want to start this post by saying I am married to a wonderful man.  He is the most unselfish, loving and hard working man I know and I truly mean that.  Everything he does, he does for the good of our family.  He loves me and tells me so every single day.  He compliments me daily, spoils me, does anything I ask him too and always has our families best interest at heart.  He loves our girls and is very protective of them.  I could not ask for a better husband.

He has also married the perfect wife for him.  I know that sounds like I’m boasting but when I tell you his flaw, you will understand that another woman might have already killed him.  That makes me his perfect match and of course I tell him this all the time.

With all of his wonderful attributes he does have a shortcoming (actually he has more but we are only talking about this one today).   My husband says the most inapropriate things to me.  When he says these things, he doesn’t mean them maliciously, they just come out wrong….so very wrong.  Here are two of the latest examples I can think of right now:

A couple of months before vacation he asks me if I’ve thought about losing weight before going to Florida.   Even for him that’s a little bold so I just look at him and he realizes what he has just said to me.  LOLOLOL.  What he meant was he had been thinking of losing weight some weight and wondered if I had too.  Obviously I can stand to lose some but that’s not what he meant at all.

Last night I got my haircut in a little different style for me so when I come home he asks me if I like it.  I said yes I did and he said so do I.  Good answer honey.  Later I catch him looking at me and I said “you don’t like it” and he answers “it’s not bad”.  LOLOLOL!  He actually does like it but he knows that I will style it a little differently and that the way she styled it wasn’t bad, just not how I will do it.

See what I mean about being the perfect wife for him?  I have to admit in the beginning I wasn’t really sure how to take him but I totally understand how his mind and mouth work now so it’s ok.

Yes, you are in the right place

Posted in books, family, quilt, thoughts at 5:52 pm by sillydreamer

I get tired of my themes pretty quickly so here’s a new one.  Now are you understanding why we paint the walls of my house so frequently??  LOL!

It’s Sunday afternoon and I still haven’t made it out of my pajamas yet.  I got up, cleaned the kitchen, ate, and have just been puttering around since 8:00.  I need to go wash my dirty van but I’m pretty comfortable so I’m not sure when that will happen.  I also need to make it to the dreaded grocery store but we’ll see about that too.

I finished reading “In an Instant” by Lee and Bob Woodruff.  He’s the reporter who was injured covering the war in Iraq.  It was a good read and uplifting to see how families pull together and make it through tough times.  I picked up “The Ice Man” yesterday and will probably start on it this evening.  Should be interesting.

I am beyond frustrated with my computer and it looks like I’ll have to do a system recovery pretty soon.  My camera wizard doesn’t work anymore and I have tried several different ways to fix it with no success.  I’m sure there is some program blocking it (or so I’ve read) but so far I haven’t been able to locate which one.  It’s not Real Player 10 because I’ve unistalled it and it still doesn’t work.  I’ve also run the autoplay fix and that wasn’t it either.  I know there are other ways to upload my pictures from my digital camera but I like the wizard because it’s the easiest and I want it back.  Is that so much to ask?  LOL.  We ended up doing a recovery at least once a year to clear up these kinds of annoying problems.   Am I the only one that does that?  It’s such a pain in the butt but it does correct all of our problems.  If anyone has any suggestions about the camera wizard please let me know.  I am willing to try a few more fixes before I wipe it all out again.

The best advice

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:24 pm by sillydreamer

My second grade teacher, the most fabulous teacher ever, Mrs. Dewey, taught our class this poem:

The wise old owl sat in the oak,

the more he  saw, the less he spoke.

The less he spoke, the more he heard.

Now why can’t we be like that old bird?

Who knew I would learn the best advice ever in the 2nd grade?  Have a lovely day 🙂

I’ve sat here for 30 minutes already typing and erasing this post.  I just can’t think of a thing worth blogging about.

I just got back from the grocery store and I am wondering why in the world clam juice is sold?  Is there a need so big for clam juice that it is bottled and sold  now?  Just wondering.   LOL!!!
